You know what would be cool for non-technical people?

The internet utopia I was expecting when I was younger involves blackboxes sold to non-technical people to self-host services. Like, here, I bought a mastodon instance, I connect it to the internet (just like buying a dishwasher, or any appliance or device nowadays), and boom, I am selfhosting it.

There are also blackboxes for other services, like a peertube channel, and a pixelfed for all the family. All under your family domain. Automated updates like your android phone.

Allora,

I am super proud of myself.

I had a NO_PUBKEY Error when updating my Collabora Online service on my VPS.

My head started to swim and I thought "oh no"!

Anyway, thanks to the internet I found some good guidance on what I needed to do and, voilà, problem solved and I'm all sorted.

I love that I'm constantly learning on my journey of #selfhosting.

My Cute Homelab™️ [1] got a few minor updates over the weekend. All 3 ThinkCentre Tiny PCs are now from the m910 series. Two of them now have 2 network ports each. All have HDMI. And I added a 4 port KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse) switch for an even cleaner look and less cable switching. I consider this homelab done from the hardware side. Now the fun begins. With the software.

I finally enabled #Cloudflare proxy for git.nicelycomposed.codes

The reason it was disabled was a large file upload limitation on Cloudflare's free tier. I was not able to push large #Docker images to the registry on #Gitea instance.

Now I have a local #DNS record for the Gitea instance pointing directly to the #Zoraxy reverse proxy by its local IP address. So, when my CI jobs push images, the data bypasses Cloudflare's proxy with its limitations.

AI crawlers, on the other hand, are blocked by Cloudflare.

My #Proxmox node should become cooler now.

Nicely Composed GitNicely Composed GitGitea (Git with a cup of tea) is a painless self-hosted Git service written in Go

I got some feedback about how slow my #blog is to load. I decided to try my hand at setting up an #nginx #cache so that the requests can be satisfied by the cache instead of being generated by the blog software itself.

Just doing a few quick tests myself, it seems the like responses come a bit quicker, but I still think some of the delay is just due to the garbage residential Spectrum service.

If anyone would like to poke at my blog and share any observations on load time and potential cache performance, that'd be cool. :-)
