@Cheeseness Here is a brief video I captured through binoculars last January when it was the annual swift family picnic "earn your wings" day. Or something. Aunts, uncles, cousins. They just fly in for the day, and there are suddenly 5-10x as many as usual. I am so grateful to witness patterns of behaviour like this. It's beautiful.

Drei Monate in der Swift Box von @RSPB in 30 Sekunden. Schön war's.
The common swifts have left Basel, but there’s still another brilliant aerialist to observe, #111Words #Switzerland #Basel #JetLag #Swifts #Bats #Aerialists https://andrewjshields.blogspot.com/2024/08/the-common-swifts-have-left-basel-but.html
Yesterday I also managed, for the first time, to snap a photo of a Swift, even if a bit noisy. They're appropriately named.
The migratory flow continued yesterday out into Africa from the E.side of The #Straits with 𝟐,𝟏𝟖𝟏 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐊𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 crossing alongside 𝟔𝟗𝟏 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬, 𝟏𝟏 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭-𝐭𝐨𝐞𝐝 and 𝟏𝟕 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 with an 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐚´𝐬 #𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐧 putting in an appearance!
Constantly interspersed with noisy 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐞-𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 y masses of 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐝 y 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 #𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐬!
This juv 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢´𝐬 #𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐫 kept me company and mosquitos at an acceptable tolerance! - I have definitely helped fuel its migration !
Fabulous days amongst the flow of #Migratory #Raptors #Storks for guests from Naturetrek Wildlife Holidays AND connecting with all 5 species of #Swift - Alpine, Pallid, Common, Little and today 3 White-rumped #Swifts !
Plus vagrant adult Rüppell’s Vulture, Rufous-tailed Scrub Robins in-the-face ! Gull-billed Terns and Slender-billed Gulls hawking overhead, colourful Eurasian Golden #Orioles and migrating European Bee-eaters and feisty White-headed Ducks and at the nest Isabelline #Warblers!
Noch einmal kratzen, hübsch machen, sich sammeln... und los! (Schnief.)
