What's behind the this door? Second breakfast? Kinda! 🥞 This is a "Ghiacciaia". Essentially an outdoor fridge freezer. This place would be packed with ice or snow and used to keep food cold. We're talking meat, milk, vegetables, that half bag of oven chips in the back of the freezer we all have - everything. The palazzo where this Ghiacciaia resides is Palazzo Zani and it was built in 1594. The Ghiacciaia itself however was built sometime in the 1800's. So, between 1594 and sometime in the 1800's they probably had a Indesit or something. ✨<br>

There's nothing better than an outdoor summer bar! This is my favourite of last year's - Camporella at Villa Serena. Great food, music, drinks and my favourite - twinkling fairy lights everywhere! 🕯️ After a hard day of escaping the July heat in the crypts of the cemetery, you can go and sit in a comfy chair, have a drink and relax. (I have actually done this! 😂)✨<br>

In 1855 there was a cholera outbreak in Bologna. There were about 70,000 people living in the city with tens to hundreds of people being affected by cholera every day. (On the 12 July there were 169 cases alone registered)<br>

In the Archiginnasio there is a room called the Sala Rusconi. Named after Pietro Giacomo Rusconi (1865-1916), it contains many rare and valuable books and manuscripts which were collected by him. These were donated to Bologna after the death of his wife Luisa Verzaglia in 1919 - as the couple had not had any children. You unfortunately cannot go into the room now but you can peek through the iron bar door from the Sala Stabat Mater. <br>
The portrait you see over the door is Rusconi himself. <br>
I wanted to give the photo the feel of an old-fashioned illustration to compliment the treasures and antiquities in this library. <br>
