Auf den Philippinen ist der Vulkan Kanlaon ausgebrochen und hat eine mehrere Kilometer hohe Aschewolke in den Himmel gespuckt. Zahlreiche Anwohner wurden evakuiert, Schulen betroffener Dörfer sind geschlossen.
I have #macos, #windows and #linux installations for #vulkan game engine development. On #macos I feel the walls of Apple's garden closing in from all sides. Windows has become a horrible mess. Window management is abysmal, winget, although a step in the right direction, breaks sometimes and don't get me started on ads in the Start menu of the Pro edition...WTF MS?!
The only thing superior in #macos is touchpad gestures and scrolling (sometimes) but I am not sure if this is due to hardware or software.
#Linux using #KDE or #GNOME just gets out of the way and simply works. Window management is great, even on the very opinionated #GNOME desktop with limited customization options. Everything feels swift, battery lifetime on my 5 year old Dell Precision is great and I appreciate having full control of the system without all this cloud account BS.

I'm quite disappointed by subgroupRotate or any other subgroup shuffle instructions. For both RDNA3+ & Ada Lovelace+, I thought that these instructions would be faster than e.g. going back and forth to LDS, but they look super slow.
And not a single GLSL code using such instructions on GitHub... while they have been around for many years.
Are subgroup instructions just not worth? Not used? Abandoned?
RDNA3+ ISA manual says it is using LDS hardware (but not mem), and so?
I have reworked filtering for the #Vulkan hardware database. A new settings page allows for more control over global filters applied to the data, hopefully making it easier to limit results to what people are actually looking for. Also added a QoL improvment for selecting your default platform:

Hm, not happy with SPIR-V to ISA on my RDNA3 that is reordering loads from shared memory in some ways that it is actually slightly less efficient...
Is there a way to instruct the ISA compiler via GLSL to not reorder loads from shared mem? (Not workgroup/subgroup barriers but simple no-reordering) I haven't yet tried if volatile could do the trick
Anyone has some thoughts?
