#Today been shopping around for homeowners insurance this week and I have questions.
They want to know how old the house is, how old the roof is and if you have deadbolts. What sort of heat ,do you have a home based business, is there a fire extinguisher. Garage or not attached or not , is there a Ring doorbell.
Pool? Trampoline? DOG? OMG what kind of dog and have they ever bitten anyone.
Know what they DON’T ask?
Is there a firearm in your home and is it secured.

I see nothing in my policy document about firearms, though they may be counted as "sports equipment" in which case there are limits on value unless separately insured. Farmers often own firearms - one might expect them to be insured with their other business equipment, not included under their home contents policy?
@TimWardCam they’re obsessed with dog breeds but guns cause 100 times as many deaths in the US.

@dan613 @DamonHD please share where exactly it says an insurance company can’t require additional coverage. Sure I know in theory it’s protected however how do we balance this with personal liability? If my dog is the wrong breed regardless of her temperament they’ll deny me coverage because of a one in a million chance she could cause harm. The odds of a dog killing someone are literally 1% when compared to guns.
