Nice reflection on the value of private comms, and the consequences of the massive AT&T data breech.
This is why Signal bends over backward to collect as close to NO DATA as we can. Not having it is the best way to keep it safe

@Mer__edith that's why I like the concept of true decentralized communication networks, like @delta and others. They don't even know that I'm using their services!
@sirjofri @Mer__edith @delta Hmm.... Never heard of Delta Chat. Had a quick look and made a note to check it out later.
@sirjofri @Mer__edith @delta delta is not a service, that's why. It is a program. Still, the emails backing delta communications exist, and sender and reciever adresses are unencrypted.
@natchouf @Mer__edith @delta yes and no. Deltachat supports (and encourages) autocrypt, and you are free to run your own mail server. They even have a guide that explains how to easily set up a deltachat-optimized mail server
@natchouf @Mer__edith @delta (my point was that delta chat only provides the software, and they don't even know that I'm using it. Except that in my specific case I tell people about it, so they can guess that I'm using it, but they still have no data from using their software)
