@SAWYNNE1 exactly.... now that African American studies has been a curriculum at universities for some time, we are into the second generation of students writing theses and publishing research papers on that build on each other. The demise of thriving neighborhoods that occurred when the interstate example is one of many exploitations i never learned about in school. Same thing with gender studies. Of course plate tectonics is woke geology isn't it?

@SAWYNNE1 however, my understanding is that woke was originally a term used for decades by black people in the US to recognize the systematic oppression they faced.
So I think being woke is wise, and anti-wokeness is racist. But I no longer claim the label 'woke' for myself because I am white.
@firebreathingduck Well it's not abt "claiming" it. It's abt knowing the depth of its meaning & acting on it. Mccarthy mentioned this in his speech after winning the gavel, that one agenda would be to fix "woke indoctrination" in schools. Of which there is no such thing. Just another Republican scare tactic. However they use the word as something for their base to fear (as if it's a "black/liberal agenda") and then run on it. They are totally wrong in this approach & it will eventually backfire.

@SAWYNNE1 i think this word and its ideologic meaning comes from USA. in places like portugal, europe, we actually learn about Marx..
@freenando75 Yes it originated from African Americans and means to be alert or awake to social issues and injustice. However Republicans are using it as an insult and scare tactic to divide us.
