When I first joined Mastodon I was enthused. The smaller number of people actually led me to more conversations about than I had on FB (I never really did Twitter). But as the numbers grew, so did the conversations about myriad things & I am not someone who wants to spend hours here. Even skimming doesn't find me what I want, so I have been visiting less & less. I think that trend will only continue for me. @bookstodon@a.gup.pe

@SharonBergAuthor You can also filter out anything you don't want to see. Think it might depend on your app/server how you do that. Go into your preferences and see if it's clear how to do it.

Take a look at Hubzilla, it supports ActivityPub but its primary protocol is Zot or Zap. It allows for far more control about the content types and access permissions, so you can filter with greater details. It s main publishing unit is articles, not microblogs, better suited for writers. There are more differences, and while it has some learning curve it has additional functionalities.
