Nice article about 1.5C target, which is the news today.

To be clear, I've never thought that 1.5C was an achievable target. My view is that it's a stretch goal to motivate us.
But I think we can still achieve 2C. The rest of the world (e.g., China) is moving on from fossil fuels as fast as they can.
This is what gives me hope.
@andrewdessler The geopolitical incentive is strong: independence from oil and gas producers. The economic one as well: solar and wind are far cheaper than oil. Together, these forces can defeat future attempts at increasing oil production. Demand for oil is still raising https://ourworldindata.org/fossil-fuels but this seems poised to change rather fast.
@andrewdessler
China has done such a good PR job of fooling people into thinking that they are taking climate action. I'm impressed.
I'll be convinced they're decarbonizing only after they stop building new coal plants and importing more and more of it all the time.
Hopefully, they'll start reducing their greenhouse gas emissions soon.
@andrewdessler The problem being that net emissions have to go down to zero to stop warming at 2 degrees. Currently, there’s no net zero in sight.
