It’s called “State Capture” it’s always been a GOP goal.
We will be helping them derive profit by diverting our federal finances into private pockets. The same scheme adopted by civil servants would be called embezzlement.
There's a role for the private sector to play in service of the public, for commodities like paperclips and for special projects such as construction, where a larger shared market creates economy of scale.
For continuous efforts it's more efficient not to waste money on profit, better to have our own workers

Which is fair in the sense that US power and finance bros did so much to help along the Russian oligarchy; but not fair in that it might wind up strengthening the winners of that injustice, not the losers.

If you expect your taxes to be reduced proportionately to the “savings”, you’re probably MAGA.
@davidho But according to the article this is not even a 'replacement'. Those long-duration balloons circling the globe cannot collect a vertical profile, and not in a specified location. Also wind data along the vertical profile from GPS tracking will not be collected. Valuable data no doubt, but *different* data.
