I have the impression there are not many Russians today who adhere to the Russian tradition as Pope Francis seems to imagine it.

Would he be really that naive, or does he have an ulterior motive for putting it this way?

@sibrosan Naïveté or motivated reasoning - THAT is the million dollar question. I struggled with that question daily vis a vis France and Germany's appeasement of Muscovy for eight years.

Now, say, in the case of German president Steinmeier I deduced that it was a really deeply set ahistorical colonialist perspective on Ukraine & Ukrainians (twitter.com/decodingtrolls/sta).
