Boehmeria cylindrica “Smallspike false nettle” 🌱

Very easy to grow native plant to North America. Grows well in shade. 😎

Edible. Tastes like spinach. Best as a mixed salad green but can also be juiced and cooked like other greens. Leaves are a little fuzzy.

Blooms prolifically but flowers are modest. So far the bunnies have left it alone. Dioecious.

@anathema_device @plants@a.gup.pe where have you seen this? False nettle is in the Urticaceae family in the order Rosales, clad Rosids and mint is in the Lamiaceae family in the order Lamiales, clad Asterids. They do look a little similar though.

@jblue @plants My mistake. I was thinking of dead nettle (which is also a ‘false’ nettle) which you find in Britain and Europe, and which is Lamiaceae

@anathema_device @plants@a.gup.pe no worries, there was a discussion a couple months ago that the native plant hashtag posts should include the poster’s location bc some plants were invasive species on different continents and it’s not always obvious where people are posting from :blobcatheart:

@jblue @plants I would definitely encourage everyone to include locations in all plant and photo posts! And in their profiles too :)
