J blue

A clump of something fell into a bush and I heard a peeping sound.

A duckling.

Walked around with it to find the mom and the quacking sound came from the roof. So my favorite mallard hen was able to have a successful brood after all. Climbed onto the roof and put duckling back. Hopefully they will be ok. Left a large plant saucer on the roof with some water and brick to hold it down.

Probably because ducklings are so cute! 😆 . Good to hear that you could help. So she has a nest on the _roof_? ??

@quixote She's not actually that dumb, just desperate. She lost two broods this summer either to raccoons or minks. She nested behind bushes adjacent to the porch door and garage door: places that are a bit too close for humanity for wild animals but they still got them anyway.

When the males mallards harass her, she'll literally fly right at me and stop at my feet and the drakes swerve and fly away. It's funny but very unnerving.
