@jblue I’d be down for the pawpaws, ground cherries, persimmons and maypops. Attempting to permaculture my yard. I'm in Chicagoland.
@leotrotsky Chicago, Illinois? The pawpaws, persimmons and ground cherries may work for you. The maypops cap off at zone 7. They grow really large and have an extensive root system so it’s not something you can grow in a pot and bring inside in winter. I tried growing in a pot and the roots tore out the bottom and cemented themselves in the ground below and have spread widely. The P lutea can grow to zone 5 but mine are collected in zone 8 so there may be regional differences.
