Pawpaw pie
All those pawpaws, had to do something with them…
Loosely adapted from this recipe, see AltText for details. https://cookingwithyoshiko.com/tofu-cheesecake/
2/ This is what it looks like as a cut piece.
It cut smoothly and came out easily. Good texture.
@jblue And, and, and… how does it taste? (because it looks delicious!)
@SunnJax it is tangy and sweet. I only used half the lemon the model recipe called for and it was still too much. The lemon overpowered the pawpaws a bit. It is good though.
@jblue this looks delicious, and the recipe sounds fantastic! I've been thinking about growing paw paws for a while.
@Foxside I am giving away seeds to east coast US if you want to grow them.
@jblue do I DM my address? And do you accept donations for the project?
@Foxside yes, just DM me your address and how many seeds and which ones. I still have puffy envelopes so don’t need any donations yet.
@jblue
Reminds me of Kingdom Hearts
@jblue do you think the picture in this post is a pawpaw? https://beige.party/@Waitnwallflower/111111327414967036
@lynneverson @Waitnwallflower no, it’s a maypop. The fruit can vary in flavor. Mine are good and taste like apples with a hint of banana.
@Waitnwallflower @jblue @lynneverson had some maypop tires on my car for awhile
@jblue how is it?
@Shanmonster it was good but I would change the recipe a little. I only used half the lemon required in the model recipe and it still overpowered the pawpaw.
@jblue some day, I hope to eat a pawpaw. I’ve never had one.
@Shanmonster I am giving away free pawpaw seeds for east coast US if you are interested. Mine come from a zone 8 that used to be zone 7, so I think they are good for at least zone 6.
@jblue I live in a place where they used to be common. If I had the room at all, I would grow them, but I only have a teensy yard. I wish I could! I’d love to see them reestablished around here. Hey, @IndigenousFoodSov ! Do you folks have space to grow pawpaws?
@Shanmonster @IndigenousFoodSov I have another food security + native plant project I’m trying to establish. I contacted one local city and they are interested but it isn’t official yet. You can copy/paste the image and send it to your city gov and see if they want to do this too. If they do, I can send you seeds for you and others to establish for this project.
If this project happens locally, I’ll post about it here and update it.
@Shanmonster @jblue we do have space, and I believe 3 saplings coming this year.
@Shanmonster @IndigenousFoodSov let me know if you would like more seeds or if other people might want them. I have almost 400 and 110 are claimed already. I also have a lot of physalis grisea.
