@ghost_shit — so you’re one of the “I like it but won’t share because of no alt-text” people that ruin Mastodon. I mean, permission is given to steal it and add the alt-text yourself. Even if permission isn’t given, you could steal it and add alt-text. You could do the alt4you. You didn’t. You complained and stopped the message. You are what is wrong with Mastodon.
@jeffowski It's weird how all of the comments at this point are begging for alt-text. First I've seen this being an issue, but I suppose it does make sense to support all people. However, to play devil's advocate, I'll say don't add alt-text. Don't let the AI machines steal and learn from your hard work for free.
@samofhearts — what I don’t get is people that say they love the message but won’t share because of no alt-text. Given that people are told to steal the meme and they can share it with alt-text but didn’t tells me that people are virtue signaling and don’t care about the message. It also demonstrates how hard doing the alt-text or you would have done it. This is what’s wrong with Mastodon.
@samofhearts @jeffowski AI machines can't do alt text right. A proper alt text needs to understand not only what is explicitly depicted in an image, but also the subtext, as well as the intention of the person who posts the image.
@Ash_Crow @jeffowski You may have read my comment backwards. I definitely would never tell anybody to use AI to make alt-text. I was saying don't add alt-text so that AI can't steal it. As in farm it and use the alt-text to learn how to recognize what is in the image. Alternatively, I would support adding purposely incorrect alt-text specifically to poison the LLMs. Thank you.

You are LITERALLY the problem with Mastodon. Go see the pinned posts and understand that you’re the asshole.
