Well, they said "Don't tread on me," not "Don't tread on anybody else." :p
That's conservatism in a nutshell.
@TobyBartels @jeffowski Unfortunately. None of their standards apply to anyone outside their group.
@TobyBartels @jeffowski And frankly conservatives often fail to apply their own standards to members within their own group, too. Truly spineless people.
but hey they don't have to be trans now /s
@jeffowski It’s always OK to take away someone else’s rights as long as they don’t take away yours. Or so the theory goes with these people.
@jeffowski I mean these people are the "Sons and Daughters of the Confederacy" -- the descendants of those who caused a civil war over human chattel slavery just 160ish years ago.
This was never about the human rights or oppression of those white people, it was always about retaliation and a return to the same barbaric conditions. Rich people, as usual, stirred them up and built monuments to confederate soldiers FORTY YEARS after the war because RICH PEOPLE want to return to those conditions.
@jeffowski The people who screeched "WAKE UP, SHEEPLE!!!" after 9/11 are now proudly "anti-woke".
@jeffowski
I guess the "Me" was very specific, and fk everyone else. That actually squares with maga-think.
@jeffowski Anti-democracy people hates the government when it's democratic but loves it when it's authoritarian (if aligned with them).
A real democracy is when people accept that it's not made to benefit you specifically, but to benefit a larger group of people.
A "real" authoritarian government is when it benefits specifically a small group of people.
Most people yelling the word "Freedom" are often proponents of authoritarianism since they want freedom for themselves, but not for everyone.
@jeffowski same people that can suddenly use masks...not for disease prevention, but to avoid being identified when they work WITH ice
@jeffowski@mastodon.world "Aaaaah, but that's not treading on ME. That's treading on THEM."
@jeffowski
Oh, not "anyone". Just immigrants. Or people who look like immigrants. That's how it starts.
@jeffowski@mastodon.world
And the NRA justified its positions based on the need for people to be able to rise up against tyranny. How many NRA members are rising up vs how many are cheering it on?
@jeffowski so weird, it’s almost like they think freedom is a zero sum game and the “me” was always the point, not so much the “don’t tread on”….
