Wow... they would rather sit in that over taking a train , bus, or subway..😂

@maddad @bmacDonald94
In LA, they built a subway. The auto industry quiet-killed it. Then, once it was sufficiently devalued, they bought it at pennies on the dollar, and cemented over the tracks.

@Darkphoenix @bmacDonald94

Seriously.... wow. I would of thought California would do better than that.

@maddad @bmacDonald94
California is the epitome of car culture. Cars were cheap, gas was cheap, and we loved our vacation road trips. The auto industry amplified this, and there weren't any voices to the contrary. It was one of the earliest documented examples of the rich buying the news to match their vision.

@maddad @bmacDonald94
Cars were marketed as the perfect accessory to show that "you were finally living the American Dream". And it worked.

@Darkphoenix @bmacDonald94

The American Dream was one of the best marketing ploys ever. At the time, most of us didn't realise it until we started to wake up in the late 60's. I'm glad I was there to live through those days.

@maddad @bmacDonald94
The 60's and 70's were the last decades of the great American middle class. Once Reagan became president, trickle down economics and corporate billionaires slowly destroyed that.

@Darkphoenix @maddad @bmacDonald94 Another explanation of the same phenomena is that as the USSR faded as an alternative, the global bourgeoisie threw restraint to the winds.
