@signalapp very much besides the point, but I'm surprised Threads is more popular than Bluesky!

@Linkinsoldier @barczek @signalapp @Mer__edith Shit happens. What I find worrying is how Whisper Systems reacted to when Daniel told them what he found.

@barczek @signalapp @Mer__edith That's why "generate link previews" is turned off by default & has a warning about it being insecure for exactly this reason when you go to turn it on. Every secure messenger I have used has had this as an option that is disabled by default & shows a warning on enabling it. If you worry about link previews so much but really want to have them, don't talk to people you don't know over any messenger, or use a proxy of some sort such as a VPN or TOR. The only way Signal could "fix" this would be to decrypt messages on its servers, scan them for links, & generate the previews serverside. That is not possible to do securely because it would rely on Signal decrypting your messages in the middle, & the point of Signal is for messages to only be readable by the sender & recipient.

@signalapp In the Belgian App Store, the rankings look completely different.

@librarianbe @signalapp I mean still better than the French one

@signalapp Thank you, too. Also, it'd be great if there was flexibility with setting the frequency of backups. Smaller backup files would be sweet too!

@RichPushButtons
Well then you should delete messages and media from your account history 😉
You can compare the size of your Signal data to the size of the backup and find some similarities.
Or would you just like more files just smaller in size, rather than one big backup file?
@signalapp

@signalapp just convinced my whole family to make the switch!

@signalapp toch triest dat mensen wel #threads installeren

@signalapp I'm happy to see that people are moving to private communication 🔐

@signalapp Is there any explanation for the (sudden) popularity of Signal in the Netherlands?
