In case you wanted to look at the results of the from 2023 study yourself:

"Early findings from the world’s largest study"

"Both a large lump sum and a long-term UBI proved highly effective. The lump sum enabled big investments and the guarantee of 12 years of UBI encouraged savings and risk-taking."

GiveDirectly · Early findings from the world’s largest UBI study | GiveDirectlyMoney always helps, but for the poorest, one large lump sum can last a long time. A long-term universal basic income also looks promising.

@ubi4me

Not to be a satire cynic, but the only thing these BIG / UBI studies prove, is that net wealth taxes work.

Let's put forward a 5% net wealth tax, use it to fund BIG / UBI / negative income tax in some random city (gets enough signatures in a petition), and see how - that - works for a decade.

@Anonomouse1981 Could you please go into a bit more detail on how you come to the conclusion that "the only thing these BIG / UBI studies prove, is that net wealth taxes work."? 🤓
Thanks!

@ubi4me

Inaccurate of me to say "only", as each study done is a great example of what happens with a stable economic floor.

I was looking at the funding situation "upstream". Coming to the realization that only those who have enough money are going to be able to afford to donate to a BIG / UBI over study's term.
Rich individuals will be able to donate to funding many people, while those not so rich will pool their money to help a few, or one.
I imagine the same result would happen with a tax.

@Anonomouse1981 Exactly! That's exactly how UBI should work 🙂
Billionaires and multi millionaires pay more into the system than the poor.

I would even argue that UBI should not be taxed and only amounts earned above UBI should be taxed. That is similar to tax free allowances which are available in many countries.
