So the story: on my NAS first I replaced FreeBSD with Linux because I wanted using the NAS also as a desktop machine. After some time I realized that I do not use the NAS as a desktop machine that much. So it was time for OmniOS. I really like it. Running Alpine Linux in a bhyve VM with Jellyfin with the *arrs. #omnios #freebsd #linux
OmniOS is nice, I really like it too.
@selea Still so much to learn.
@ufollop I also switched toOmniOS recently on my NAS. Would you please describe your setup? What kind of zones do you use? How you secure your infra? Do you use resource partitioning, quotas? How your firewall setup looks like?
Thx!
@extrowerk I keep it very simple because it is for home use only. I only use bhyve with Alpine Linux for media streaming. No firewall, no quotas. A Linksys router is running Tailscale as a subnet router so I can access my OmniOS server and Alpine Linux from everywhere.
@ufollop this could be interesting for you: https://lightsandshapes.com/posts/tailscale-on-omnios/
@extrowerk Thanks. I checked this post already. I run a subnet router so I do not have to Tailscale locally on the OmniOS server.
