Alexander J. Stein<p>(5/6) It&#39;s the way that <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/dairy" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>dairy</span></a> operations store <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/manure" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>manure</span></a> that produces the potent greenhouse gas—despite other, low-methane storage methods. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Biodigesters" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Biodigesters</span></a> aren&#39;t removing greenhouse gas from the air, they generate <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/methane" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>methane</span></a> they didn&#39;t need to generate &amp; then trap it: <a href="https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/392881/dairy-biogas-manure-digester" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">vox.com/future-perfect/392881/</span><span class="invisible">dairy-biogas-manure-digester</span></a></p>
Alexander J. Stein<p>(3/x) Biodigesters are a form of <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/greenwashing" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>greenwashing</span></a>. At best, they are a costly use of <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/climate" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>climate</span></a> funding: <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Biodigesters" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Biodigesters</span></a> cost $1,130 per <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/cow" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>cow</span></a> per year but generate just $128 worth of gas. At worst, they expand a brutal factory farm system by incentivizing dairy farms to grow: <a href="https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/392881/dairy-biogas-manure-digester" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">vox.com/future-perfect/392881/</span><span class="invisible">dairy-biogas-manure-digester</span></a></p>

I've been starting to replace natural gas appliances for alternatives, and yet I'm also really interested in small-scale <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/biodigesters" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>biodigesters</span></a> + <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/biogas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>biogas</span></a> stoves, rocket mass heaters, architecting better ventilation setups, etc. where appropriate. </p><p>The <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electrifyeverything" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electrifyeverything</span></a> movement has to also think about <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/materialblindness" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>materialblindness</span></a> , lifetime duration, rebuildability, electricity transmission, etc. or it'll breed it's own divisions.</p>
