Dr David Mills<p>The SD card on my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/birdPI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>birdPI</span></a> has given up the ghost. It lasted over two years and had pretty heavy access. Not bad for a no-name 16gig card I found on my shelf. </p><p>I'll try a recovery to see if I can pull any data from it, but I think it has probably gone to the great e-waste bin the sky.</p>
Dr David Mills<p>Playing with my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BirdPi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BirdPi</span></a> detection data to extract <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/swift" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>swift</span></a> detections. </p><p>The data is binned into 2-week bins, if a day has a swift detected it is counted. </p><p>Seems like the swift season was over a bit faster this year. I need to do some more digging.</p>
Dr David Mills<p>I think the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/swifts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>swifts</span></a> have departed. <br>I've not seen or heard them for a couple of days, and neither has my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BirdPi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BirdPi</span></a> <br>Until next May. Farewell little screachers. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/birding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>birding</span></a></p>
Joe Mansfield<p>OK this is a project worth unpacking a Raspberry Pi from the stash in storage for. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/BirdPi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BirdPi</span></a></p><p><a href="https://www.birdweather.com/birdnetpi" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">birdweather.com/birdnetpi</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
Dr David Mills<p>I just searched my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BirdPi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BirdPi</span></a> logs and I've detected <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Blackbirds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Blackbirds</span></a> just 6 times this year. That's 6 individual detections. Shocking.</p><p><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/jul/03/blackbird-numbers-plummet-in-south-of-england-amid-potential-spread-of-virus" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/environment/ar</span><span class="invisible">ticle/2024/jul/03/blackbird-numbers-plummet-in-south-of-england-amid-potential-spread-of-virus</span></a></p>
AdaI have my Birdnet-Pi up and running!<br> <br> <br> It's a cool project that runs on a raspberry pi, and identifies and catalogues birds by their song! The results are saved locally, but can also be submitted to <a href="https://app.birdweather.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://app.birdweather.com</a>!<br> <br> <br> There's not much data there yet, as I only just spun it up, but I can't wait to fill it out! <br> <br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.au/discover/tags/birdpi?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#birdpi</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.au/discover/tags/rpi?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rpi</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.au/discover/tags/birdnet?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#birdnet</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.au/discover/tags/birdnetpi?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#birdnetpi</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.au/discover/tags/birds?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#birds</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.au/discover/tags/australianBirds?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#australianBirds</a>
