Gary Barker<p>“Bone Music”</p><p>In 1950s Russia, one of the only ways to hear blues, jazz and rock’n’roll from America was to bootleg a record pressed up on a discarded X-ray plate.</p><p>First invented by Ruslan Bogoslowski the bootlegs were pressed on thick radiographs found in hospital bins and then cut into rough discs, sometimes using a cigarette to burn the central hole. Bogoslowski would eventually spend five years imprisoned in Siberia for this innovation. <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/bonemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bonemusic</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/sovietunion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sovietunion</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/sovietrussia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sovietrussia</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/bootlegseries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bootlegseries</span></a></p>

I don’t see this as replacing the OG, but it does reveal elements otherwise hidden under the <a href="https://mstdn.party/tags/Lanois" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lanois</span></a> treatment. Scroggins<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.online/@fmc_dylan" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>fmc_dylan</span></a></span> usually takes a while for the full bootleg series release to get to streaming services. They’ll likely have a sampler only at first. <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/bootlegseries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bootlegseries</span></a> <a href="https://shakedown.social/tags/bobdylan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bobdylan</span></a></p>

It’s not a real “bootleg” in the old meaning of the word (completely unauthorised release).</p><p>Dylan has been releasing this series called the <a href="https://aus.social/tags/BootlegSeries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BootlegSeries</span></a> which are all unreleased tracks, alternative versions (some of which are better than the official released versions). </p><p>So, <a href="https://aus.social/tags/TellTaleSigns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TellTaleSigns</span></a> is an official album released but called a bootleg (confusing no?).</p><p>Anyway it has a great version of Mississippi and a fantastic version of another Dylan song I love called Most of the Time.</p>
