Teklynk<p>I picked up this 2001 27” CRT while dropping stuff off at Goodwill. It was sitting outside next to a dumpster. The guy helping me unload my car said that it works but they cannot sell them in the store. They just throw them away. I got it for free. I took it apart. Adjusted the focus, purity and adjusted the geometry by turn the yoke a bit. It’s as good as it’s going to get for this budget model TV. I am pretty happy with it! <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/crtgaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crtgaming</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/retrogaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrogaming</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/crt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crt</span></a> <a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a></p>

Bits&Terminal Jeff<p>Found more info about the TI 3046 (or more precisely, the TI computer it was used with), which possibly doesn't have a standard composite input.</p><p>It means it's probably different enough internally from an Amdek 300 to make things more interesting and complicated (I did also find pics with the cover off and it seems very similar still). Ah well, will do what I can and learn along the way.</p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retroComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retroComputing</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/CRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CRT</span></a></p>
Bits&Terminal Jeff<p>After fiddling with the horizontal hold control, I got it to 18kHz according to spectroid. Still no image.</p><p>I've rewatched an Adrian's Digital Basement repair video of an Amdek 300a which shows similar symptoms, so have an idea of what to expect. Also downloaded manuals and schematics - I'm really hoping that this monitor matches the Amdek 300 internally as well. Won't know until this weekend when I open it up.</p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7blLes8Vgbs" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">youtube.com/watch?v=7blLes8Vgbs</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retroComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retroComputing</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/CRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CRT</span></a></p>

Bits&Terminal Jeff<p>The problem child - don't let the Texas Instruments badge fool you, this is most likely a rebranded Amdek 300 (I had one of those in the 80s with my Apple IIe clone - loved how well it displayed double-hires, didn't miss the colors because it was so sharp). Or the same Taiwanese manufacturer made both.</p><p>Edit: the TI product code for this monitor is 3046.</p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retroComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retroComputing</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/CRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CRT</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/appleII" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>appleII</span></a></p>

Bits&Terminal Jeff<p>Spectroid is showing a spike at 17.6kHz and the spec sheet for a nearly identical model says 18kHz. Bits&Terminal Jeff<p>Monitor arrived. LED lights up, there's high voltage (I can feel some static electricity close to the screen with my hand when I switch it on) but no image/raster whatsoever even when I feed it a composite signal from my Apple IIe. Maybe the tube is so tired that it can't display anything or something else is broken. Going to look inside (safely) in a couple of days to see if it's anything obvious. The thing is over 40 years old so any number of things could be dead. Hoping it's not the flyback.</p><p>If it's just the tube, then we'll see about a tube swap eventually.</p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retroComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retroComputing</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/CRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CRT</span></a></p>

Ari [APz] Sovijärvi<p>Revenge from Mars (Bally, 1999) attraction mode was just so damn mesmerising when I first saw the game back in '99. The image kind of floats over the playfield, but you can still see through it.</p><p>Technically the game has a special (and very expensive) semi-mirrored glass and a CRT hanging above the playfield, with a similar trick Asteroid Deluxe had the pretty background image added. </p><p>The game integrates the CRT pretty well, there's virtual targets the game projects over existing playfield parts and uses them to register hits. This way you can see a martian on the playfield and hit them with the ball, even when in real life the ball hit the standup target behind the projection.</p><p>But as Marge Simpson would say, I just think it's neat. </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/pinball" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pinball</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/arcade" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>arcade</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/retrogaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrogaming</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/retrotech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrotech</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/crt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crt</span></a></p>
