Alfred Chow - Maker of ThingsToday we loaded far too many tools, And went to the community workshop. I repaired the damage to the gates, From the attempted break in. After lunch we tackled a <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/RepairCafe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#RepairCafe</a> job, And broke apart a badly glued tile. Cleaned the glue off the edges, And repaired it properly. Fell asleep on the sofa, But had to get up to do caretaking. Alfred Chow - Maker of ThingsToday I really struggled to wake up, So exhausted that I overslept. Did the bins, And then met Sue at work. Did the church bins, And mopped the floors. Went to visit a client, And replaced a rotten planter with a new one. Caught up on some chat, But falling asleep with exhaustion. Went to the Community Forest School, To inspect damage following an attempted break in. Sorted out tools for that repair, And planning some improved security. Changed the cranks on Mum's exercise bike, They are now shorter. Did caretaking, And the Meeting House bins. Watched a couple of videos, Too tired to do much more. Alfred Chow - Maker of ThingsToday we took Mum shopping, And I managed to shut the car tailgate on my finger. Sorted out some larch boards for a job tomorrow, And set about applying green preservative. The larch doesn't need it, But it will match the existing for the client. Started loading the car, And put the roof rack on. Could smell burning, Mum had burned food in the microwave. Loaded 20 bricks into the car, More stuff out of the house. It will go to the client tomorrow, I wonder is she wants more? Did some spray painting, Then did caretaking. Had enough today, Really fed up and in pain. Alfred Chow - Maker of ThingsToday I started clearing the workshop, I moved a load of oak into the shed. I sorted a load of rubbish, And collected together the WEEE waste. Sue got some fabric waste bagged up, And we went to the tip. Then I started building an exhibition diorama, It's great having access to the table saw again. Got a base board and sides made, It all knocks down easily for transport. Got stuff together for Miniatures Club, Out in a mo and back home late. Alfred Chow - Maker of ThingsToday we had eggs for breakfast, As is tradition. Then we went out to look in a hole, And then I put the commercial bins out at work. We took Mum out to the Chinese Cash and Carry, And came back with some treats for her. I tried to put some spare fuel in the car, But had to buy a special funnel from Ebay. Then decided to 3D print a carpet clip, To stop the car mat moving about. Did laundry, And put it all away. Put the spare fuel in the shed, Then had to fix the shed door lock. Had dinner with Mum, Roast chicken for her birthday. Now catching up on videos, But very tired. Alfred Chow - Maker of ThingsToday we had a full English breakfast, And then cleared MiL's kitchen. Installed her new breakfast bar, And helped her repopulate it. Moved her old table into the garage, And tidied up. Checked her patio door locks, And her mobile phone. Had tea and lunch in the garden, The weather was glorious! Caught up with some reading, While Sue did some gardening. Removed the oak top from her garden table, It needs a clean and refresh. It has a maker's mark underneath. One I made for her 12 years ago. Drove home, Why can't other car owners learn to drive? Very tired now, Exhaustion is catching up with me. Alfred Chow - Maker of ThingsToday I have overslept, But up to strip the bed. Put the laundry on, Then rushed into work. Back home to sort out tools, And to clear a bit more stuff from the workshop. Sorted out my food in a bag, And packed an overnight bag. Put sheets and pillow cases back on the bed, Then went out to jet wash the car. Home to vacuum the car interior, It is really filthy in there. Put the duvet back on the bed, And made sure all the cold food is packed. Alfred Chow - Maker of ThingsToday we popped out to look in a hole, It was full of leaking water. Then we packed tools, And went to the community workshop. I made wooden shelf brackets, And we stacked the wood on them. Home and back in the workshop, Wiring socket outlets on the breakfast bar upstand. Then the struggle of fitting the upstand to the bar top, And then the whole thing on to the cabinet. Popped out to look in the hole again, United Utilities were digging again. The hole is twice a big, And there is more water. Watched a few videos, And falling asleep. Still made it to <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/MakersHour" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#MakersHour</a>, And it was worth it for the laughs. United Utilities are back outside, They're making the hole bigger. I'd go out to look, But I need to sleep. Adjusted my band saw for accuracy, It was slightly out of square. Failed to think ahead while using the router, So had to return to hand cutting joints. Got everything in glue now, should be cured in the morning. Bought an extension lead, But it was bad. Plug pins don't do all the way in, So it is scrap. Hunting around for electrical accessories, Eventually fond what I needed. Did caretaking, And booked leave for Friday. Watching a few videos, But now falling asleep. He will price up the parts needed, To increase the drive capacity. Out to do trade shopping, And to buy new wipers for the car. Back in the miniatures workshop, And started making up 1:12 scale lighting. Ten miniature fluorescent tubes, To light up a diorama. Sorted out more oak to work with, I really need a clearer workshop. Took Mum to her appointment, Then did caretaking. Caught up with admin, And watched a couple of videos. Getting late, And very tired. Gave it another coat of sanding sealer, And left it to cure for the day. Went out to Bygone Times, With a couple of challenges to find weird things. It made it more interesting looking around, So we'll do that again next time. We had lunch there, And bought a a couple of small things. Back into the workshop, Plugging nail holes in oak. Did a bit more driveway tidying, Moving stuff into the side shed. Back in the workshop, Doing a lot of sanding. Applied sanding sealer, Just the first coat. Did a tiny bit of workshop tidying, As much as one oat to a donkey. But it is a start, And that's how long journeys begin. Had dinner with Mum, Sue made a lovely fish pie. Watched a few videos, But tired now. Back into the workshop, And rough cut large radius corners on the oak table top. Refined the curves by hand, And rounded over all the edges. Did caretaking, And some repair work. Finished off the cleaning, And sorted the rubbish in the bins. Got tools ready for repair cafe tomorrow, The finally stopped to rest. Watched a few videos, But falling asleep now. Took tools to the community workshop, And built a triangular hatch. It allows servicing of the leaf trap in the IBC container. Into work to shovel out a carpark drain, And inspect some maintenance repairs. Carried on with the boot floor in the car, Added some side rebates. Then second coat of matt black, And a matt varnish. Did caretaking, And some admin for Mum. Alfred Chow - Maker of ThingsToday I did bins, Then did Mum's laundry. Went to meet Sue at work, And did the bins there as well. Decided to do some woodwork, To level the boot floor in Bugsy. Used off cuts of 18mm plywood, And enjoyed the impromtu bit of woodwork. Managed to paint the boards just as it rained, But it'll do for now. Cut up a broken trug, To make a tool hopper to fit the spare wheel. Now tools will stay put, And not fall through the spokes. Did caretaking, And yet more bins. Got a key cut for work, And then went to hospital for an X-Ray. Decided to tidy up the driveway, And moved timber and metal. We also moved granite setts, And planters. Managed to get the trailer further up the drive, Enough to squeeze both cars on as well. Sue swept away all the rubbish, And I covered up our plant from the rain. Did caretaking, And some admin. Checked on Mum, And reminded her of her appointments. Started doing laundry, But now very tired and achey. Going to go to bed early tonight, I need some sleep. I ripped a couple more CDs, And updated the car SD cards. Went into the workshop, And finished repairing the chair for Repair Cafe. It has a makers mark for Ercol, BS DH 1960 2056. Popped into work, And took bins out for the commercial collection. Trying to catch up on vdeos, But there are an awful lot of them. Had dinner with Mum, Sue made a roast chicken dinner. Booked another day of holiday, We're having a long weekend in May. Watching a few more vidoes, But ignoring the less interesting ones. Tired now, Early start in the morning. Alfred Chow - Maker of ThingsToday I hitched up the car and trailer, Then we went to a local allotment. A large pile of timber was loaded up, And we took it to the community workshop. I finished off the repair to the 'Expert installed' rainwater collection, It now actually works and doesn't fall apart. Decided to run away for the rest of the day, And we drove to Llandudno. Had an excellent gluten free fish and chips, Wales seems really good for that. Walked around the charity shops, After Sue had a paddle. Drove home in the early evening, But didn't need much dinner. Watched a little TV, And provided repair advice. Tired out now, And needing my bed.
