Some initial progress in camera control in #openswitcher :D

Open Switcher is an application to control the Blackmagic Design ATEM video switchers. These are normally controlled with the proprietary Windows or OSX application over a network connection.

I just found out about #OpenSwitcher, a free and opensource #Linux based software for controlling Blackmagic ATEM switchers!

It works flawlessly with my Studio 4K.

How to add a udev rule to use your Atem Mini Pro¹ via USB on Linux with Open Swicher Control².

(Try this if you get the error ‘Could not connect to the selected USB device. The udev rules might be missing on your installation or the current device is not supported yet’ in Open Switcher.)

The Atem Mini Pro is an amazing device but:

1. They don’t support Linux (thank goodness @martijnbraam made OpenSwitcher – https://openswitcher.org/ – which does).

2. The dumbest thing about it is that it has just one quality setting for both live streaming and for recording. And while the quality is perfectly fine for streaming, it is unusable for local recordings. And that’s the default. By default you get unusable, pixelated recordings.

Yay, the latest Open Switcher Control flatpak has the new advanced chroma key controls for the Atem Mini Pro, etc.

One step closer to putting the old Macbook in a drawer forever :)

(OpenSwitcher for Blackmagic Design ATEM video switchers is getting advanced chroma key controls… the lack of these was the only reason I still kept my Mac around. If you have an Atem Mini/Pro/etc. and use Linux, check out this project.) :)
