I'm all for for getting more policy through Parliament to protect human rights/ liberties in the ways technology is deployed. Strategies for this can be divided into two broad categories;
1) working with existing parties on tech policy
2) growing a tech freedom party
Having been involved in trying both strategies, multiple times, I've had much more success with the first one, for far less effort.

@ramsey Well #Microsoft owns #GitHub and is a major contributor to the #OSI. #TechRights has a lot of documentation on how big tech companies, led by Microsoft and #Google, pull the strings at OSI and #LinuxFoundation.

@lightweight If you want some support for this theory, #TechRights, is pretty much saying the same thing.
Systemd isn't proprietary, but the main developer, Lennart Poettering, now works for Microsoft, so it will need to be closely watched. #TechRights has raised this as a huge concern, but in reality, we'd have to throw out the whole 'many eyes' premise of open source to accept this.
However, I'd be surprised, if Microsoft hiring Poettering isn't directly related to them trying to take over control of Linux.
