I get really into them and enjoy the competition - even if it's just with myself and the race to get all those shiny badges (at least, that one and only time I did NaNo)</p><p>But I only participate in a challenge when I have a very tangible, measurable goal. I love them for first drafts, less so for editing.</p><p>That's why I haven't joined <a href="https://mas.to/tags/WritingMonth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WritingMonth</span></a> yet. But the next time I have a draft to write, I'm gonna.</p>

It's still vey basic and in development, but there was a good sense of community last November. For me it was just as good as Nano, but I don't need forums and gimmicks and prep talks.</p>

I'm about to start work on showing you the progress on non-secret projects of your buddies on your dashboard.</p><p><strong>Edit:</strong> The feature is now live, check it out!</p><p>This was a pretty clearly foreshadowed feature in the project creation page, but if you didn't realize it was forthcoming and have a project whose progress you don't want buddies to see, this is a good time to check its visibility.</p><ul><li><strong>Public</strong> - will eventually visible to anyone who visits your profile</li><li><strong>Private</strong> - will not be public on your profile, but will be visible to buddies</li><li><strong>Secret</strong> - if anyone other than you looks, the Writing Month site pretends this project doesn't even exist.</li></ul><p>(There are similar options for your overall profile in account settings.)</p>
