David Wakeham<p>Was emailed a client’s EOY report card by their father today.</p><p>My client battles numerous <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/LearningDifficulties" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LearningDifficulties</span></a> including <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ActuallyAutistic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ActuallyAutistic</span></a>. What amazed me is the comment by the principal that they provided “adjustments to … educational program”.</p><p>This isn’t the flex you think it is. It is an actual legal requirement.</p>
thegrumpyenby<p>:boost_anim_sleeping: Asking for a friend who was diagnosed with “learning difficulties” as a kid but a lot of what they describe sounds like less typical autism symptoms (e.g. can’t go out in public alone but is fine with a trusted person, not sensory overwhelm, more general discomfort). I promised to ask around for resources available in the UK to give them a starting point for looking into coping mechanisms and understanding what’s going on in their brain.</p><p>Any good orgs? Websites/reading materials? Access to/recs for therapy (they may be able to afford private if it can be spaced out)? Self help groups? Please, drop your recs and advice and I’ll make sure to pass them on.
