SetSideB<p>Matt Sefton Remembers Maboshi’s Arcade<br>Mat Sephton, aka gingerbeardman (Mastodon, Bluesky), creator of a GotY Playdate game, spent some time tracking down the origins of MaBoShi, aka Maboshi's Arcade, one of the most unique and distinctive independently-made WiiWare games. He blogged about it back in 2013 (anna anthropy did so too back then). Since then t<br><a href="https://setsideb.com/matt-sefton-remembers-maboshis-arcade/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">setsideb.com/matt-sefton-remem</span><span class="invisible">bers-maboshis-arcade/</span></a><br><a href="https://wrestling.social/tags/indies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>indies</span></a> <a href="https://wrestling.social/tags/niche" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>niche</span></a> <a href="https://wrestling.social/tags/indie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>indie</span></a> <a href="https://wrestling.social/tags/iOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iOS</span></a> <a href="https://wrestling.social/tags/Maboshi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Maboshi</span></a> <a href="https://wrestling.social/tags/MaboshisArcade" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MaboshisArcade</span></a> <a href="https://wrestling.social/tags/niche" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>niche</span></a> <a href="https://wrestling.social/tags/wii" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wii</span></a> <a href="https://wrestling.social/tags/wiiware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wiiware</span></a></p>

sewart<p>On this day in 2010 HB Studios released one of two HB Arcade games for WiiWare, Disc Golf. I was the one of the designers on these games, which were basically a chance to develop something small to gain some experience self-publishing on the platform. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Wii" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wii</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/WiiWare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WiiWare</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/HBStudios" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HBStudios</span></a></p>
The Fury 🐧💻❗️🔥:verified:<p>Meant to post these earlier. I snagged a cheap LCD TV from <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Savers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Savers</span></a> since it was pretty small, and I could fit it where I normally use my work laptop. It also has a <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/VGA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGA</span></a> connection, which our main TV lacks. </p><p>Plus, it should be easier to use for play testing, or just when I'm in the mood to play something on original hardware, since the main TV is wall mounted and I have to contort myself to plugin/unplug cables.</p><p>I tested a few games using my best cables for each; no crappy component cables (except for the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/N64" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>N64</span></a>, which had <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/SVideo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SVideo</span></a>, so it still doesn't look that great). I noticed one of the games I tested, <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/WWFAttitude" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WWFAttitude</span></a> on <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Dreamcast" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Dreamcast</span></a> wouldn't display at all. My guess is that it's using some different display resolution that doesn't play nice with <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/VGA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VGA</span></a>, perhaps since it's an upscaled port of the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/PlayStation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PlayStation</span></a> version. The other game, <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/CastlevaniaResurrection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CastlevaniaResurrection</span></a> (a canceled, incomplete game), worked fine.</p><p>Pretty pleased overall. This will do until I finally move and have space for a <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/CRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CRT</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/TV" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TV</span></a> to play the older stuff in the proper manner! <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Wii" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Wii</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/WiiWare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WiiWare</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/WiiShop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WiiShop</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Caslevania" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Caslevania</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/CastlevaniaAkumaj%C5%8DDraculaMokushiroku" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CastlevaniaAkumajōDraculaMokushiroku</span></a><br><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/DemonCastleDraculaApocalypse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DemonCastleDraculaApocalypse</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Castlevania64" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Castlevania64</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Akumaj%C5%8DDracula" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AkumajōDracula</span></a><br><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/DemonCastleDracula" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DemonCastleDracula</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/CastlevaniaTheAdventureReBirth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CastlevaniaTheAdventureReBirth</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/DocLouissPunchOut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DocLouissPunchOut</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/PunchOut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PunchOut</span></a></p>
Alex :mastodon:<p>If you're into <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Pokemon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Pokemon</span></a>, I definitely recommend the Pokémon Mysterious Dungeon <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/WiiWare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WiiWare</span></a> games. They were only released in Japan but, there was an excellent fan translation that came out a few years ago: <a href="https://projectpokemon.org/home/files/file/4136-pokemon-mystery-dungeon-adventure-squad-series-wii-translations/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">projectpokemon.org/home/files/</span><span class="invisible">file/4136-pokemon-mystery-dungeon-adventure-squad-series-wii-translations/</span></a></p>
