This is a powerful graph of the climate emergency.

@MatthiasSchmelzer !! That’s quite a graph to stomach
@MatthiasSchmelzer
Alt text: Average global temperature from 20,000 BC, showing the range of temperatures before and during human civilisation. Since the start of the industrial revolution, the line is rising almost vertically, to +1.1℃ now, just over the top of the "safe climate zone", and a continued rise forecast into increasingly deep red zones: 2℃ expected before 2050 under current policies, 4℃ expected before 2100 under current policies.

@MatthiasSchmelzer
Great one, I also like the one make by XKCD.
@MatthiasSchmelzer except we are not only at 1.1 °C above the pre industrialization period, but closer to 1.5°C
Also, just considering the IRA and Next Gen EU it is quite improbable to reach +4°C at the end of the century. I do get that it's important to bring attention to the problem, but I think that using wrong numbers can be counterproductive.
@MatthiasSchmelzer future generations will ask why people in our time let this happen.
@rosorrentino capitalism
@MatthiasSchmelzer Schöne Grafik. Leider nur schön und weit davon entfernt, aktuell zu sein. So eine alte Grafik trägt eher dazu bei, wirklich dringe Maßnahmen zu verzögern.
@MatthiasSchmelzer The time-axis isn't helping to make it a reasonable graph.
@MatthiasSchmelzer @sebastianmalloy Thank goodness we spared ourselves that ice age, though, right?
@MichaelPorter @MatthiasSchmelzer And me with all those blankets in the closet already! Dangit!
Looking ahead...we just had the coldest week we will ever have
