So… won our dispute with HMRC over R&D tax credits. A year of worry for nothing. It must have cost them more to dispute our claim than the claim was worth.
Other developers & inventors have been caught in this campaign by HMRC.
Any R&D is huge investment of time & often an individuals personal money.
It should be encouraged by government. Not used as a clumsy way to claw back tax to fill a hole they created paying Baroness Mone or whatever.

Do you know if research charities get tax credit because of research?
@amunizp I’m sure charities can make a claim if you meet the (pretty arcane) criteria. But aren’t they tax exempt anyway?
