I'll never understand why some politicians insist on holding out until they die. McConnell keeps having "episodes" yet plans to stick it out. Diane Feinstein wasn't there in the end, just rolled out under a blanket. Instead of retiring and spending the remaining time with their families, they'd rather hold onto whatever power they have accumulated as long as they can. Not for the people, only for themselves.

@That_One_Guy Those episodes very well could be seizures or TIAs— so crazy, they just pretend he’s OK

@That_One_Guy Henry Kissinger once said that power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.

@phaedral
He probably had a whiskey drink and a lager drink lunch. So he got back up again.

@That_One_Guy A real tub-thumper of a post there, my friend!

@writermonki
Yes, they do, but as recent elections show, any idiot can get elected apparently.

@That_One_Guy Don't forget Ms. Pelosi, who, in spite of being older than Mr. Biden, was somehow effective at convincing him that he was too old to run for re-election, while she (of course) returns to office for another term.

I prefer my legislators, who are entrusted with writing laws for the future of our nation, to have a direct personal stake in that future. I'm not saying older, wiser, more experienced politicians have no role - I'd hope the younger folks would hire them as advisors and staffers.

@grumble209
I ran out of room but there is a list. McConnell, Pelosi, Grassly, Sanders and Collins.

I support age limits, but not everyone agrees.

@That_One_Guy I think it's because they don't know who they are without the power anymore. So they cling to it in order to sustain the illusion of identity and importance.

@Mrfunkedude
You'd think going into retirement with some dignity would matter and not while shitting your pants in a wheelchair but to each their own, I suppose.

@That_One_Guy
some may not want to let go of some sort of immunity (perceived or real bu law or by connection usefulness) cause they themselves cant count anymore what all they did wrong/they know exactly all they did wrong.

edit: added the parenthesis and what is in them
