Boost if you think testosterone is a wonderful thing for those who want it.
@tattie Poison for me, lifesaving medicine for others. I totally get that.
@Tweetfiction @tattie If it'd been a fair choice for me at the time, I'd have preferred an estrogenic puberty. Now, it's not poison for me, per se, but I do have to do things to cope with what it's done to me.
@roadriverrail
So, I had originally shared those memes that were like, " survived testosterone poisoning" before I considered how trans masc and NB folks felt about that. Now I stick that it's poison to me and has irreparably damaged me, but one woman's poison is definitely another man's medicine, yeah?
@tattie
@Tweetfiction @tattie Oh, yeah, you were just fine. I was just joining in with my own feelings as a tranfeminine enby who is choosing transition without HRT. Actually "I survived testosterone poisoning and now must clean up the mess" is not too inaccurate. I'm also at an age where my testosterone is in decline anyway.
You'd THINK I'd have that problem at 46! But it's being a bit stubborn. We'll get rid of it one way or another. LOL
@tattie
@Tweetfiction @tattie I'm 44 and honestly I don't even know my T level. But I didn't lose my hair and I'm probably old enough that my body hair isn't still coming in. HRT won't fix my voice or my body hair, won't make my shoulders less broad, will probably mess up my fitness, and might give me boobs larger than the A cup I already have (which is all I want). I'm short, stout, and already have some curves...the impacts and risks are too high relative to what I'd get.
@Tweetfiction this is what inspired this post, unfortunately; a transfem pulling the "testosterone is poison" thing to a friend who *just started T*
We definitely need to be more respectful of others' perspectives.
@roadriverrail
@tattie yah I figured it was something like that. Hopefully somebody seeing where I landed on that will make them think about it a little more.
@roadriverrail
@tattie @Tweetfiction Similarly, I've had trans women friends who've told me stuff like "Well, nothing will control your body hair better than HRT" and stuff like that. And it's like...I see your point but you know that's not going to work for me, so why'd you say it?
@roadriverrail There's an uncomfortable amount of trans folks that are casually transmed in that way. Like sure E can reduce body hair growth, but laser is a 100% viable option with or without HRT.
@zoey @tattie @Tweetfiction If I was the kind of trans person whose life was saved and turned around by HRT, I'd probably totalize my experience, too. There's also just a process we all need to go through of being thoughtful about that, too. Our journeys are actually all *very* different even when they have a lot of overlap.
@roadriverrail @tattie @Tweetfiction That's very true. While I'm happy with the changes so far, I'm definitely not in the camp of "HRT saved my life", so I don't have the perspective of that totalization.
