Fuck that.
If I see someone shoplifting any essential goods such as food, but also baby items, sanitary pads, etc., I run distraction by scanning for the nearest empty shelf and asking a shop assistant if they have any of that product "out back".
No need to collaborate with the thief, it's 100% deniable.
