My rabid #socialism leads me to want to support stores that have flesh-and-blood checkout people by default rather than self-checkout stations, however my much more rabid social #anxiety leads me to exclusively use self-checkout when presented as an option.

I think my solution is that I need to just start forcing myself to only go to Food Lion or Aldi instead of Kroger so that I simply don't have the option.
