15.03.2025: This is NOT prominent in the official european media today: #Hungary is protesting against #Orban and his regime in #hungary
Fight against #fascism fight for liberal #democracy ! Fight for #EuropeUnited https://www.msn.com/de-de/nachrichten/politik/proteste-in-ungarn-bei-orbán-rede-zu-nationalfeiertag/ar-AA1AYpPt
@alphao
Lower right corner: “Should we be Europeans or Russians? That is the question. Choose / Go vote!”
@TanteUschi @alphao hm, I would say, the most Russians are Europeans too. Like Hungarians. Or Serbians. Or Germans
@inch @TanteUschi its the sign held by a protester in Budapest.
In my opinion, this here is not a geographical question, but a political one, judging the regimes. Russia stands for an autocratic and undemocratic illiberal regime. Europe stands for the opposite.
As a german, I‘d prefer Europe (unlike Orban).
@alphao jetzt müsste es da nur noch faire, geheime und freie Wahlen geben...
@alphao thx for this important hint! I saw the coverage today on a large publicly funded network and the counter-protesters haven't been mentioned at all. For me this is such a relieving sight, that I'm not alone with my reservations about #Orban and his democratic understanding. Thx #Hungary , thx #APA !
@alphao You are right, our media focussed too much on Serbia.
I'm wondering if what's happening in the US is galvanising the political left across Europe, perhaps even re-aligning the centre with the left to some extent, as the reality of extreme right-wing government, and its implication of alliance with the world's most oppressive regimes, unfolds in the media spotlight.
The forthcoming election in Portugal might be a test of this.
I'm hoping the Front Populaire will agree a joint candidate by then. It's too early to say what the impact of Trump will be on LePen/Bardella, but any scrutiny of what the reality of a right-wing government might be like is unlikely to help them.
@GeofCox good point.
Well, in former terms, to keep liberal democracies in Europe is not exactly political left.
It’s actually a quite conservative goal. What happens in the US is not only „right wing“ - it’s extremist right with a fascist and anti-democratic twist.
@alphao
The far right with Trump, Milei, Meloni, Orban is joining forces.
Let's do the same: Let's organize protests for #democracy all over the world so the far right knows that we are more and have got more power!
#serbia #hungary #rome
@IreneMoews
There is majority for the better world and responsible politics.
See here the protests of 300.000 people against right wing extremism and against the nazi party of the #noAfd .
@alphao No news in spanish television
@minienciclopedia also in Germany only in very few news channels.
@alphao
As Hungarians take to the streets to protest dictator Orban, back in the US, Trump and Musk are rushing to set up an Orban-style authoritarian regime.
Their blueprint is the radical-Right Project 2025, on which several of Orban's cronies worked behind the scenes.
