@backpackandsnorkel weren't the Cook Islands first discovered by Gilligan and the skipper too? 
@xucaen excellent question. In Gilligan's island there was a volcano eruption and the US Navy reportedly saw Gilligan on the island and say that it was 250 miles south of Hawaii. That is evidence that the castaways did not make it to the Cooks.
