@davidnjoku Did you watch the first FE race of the season at Sao Paulo?
@mountdiscovery I missed it? Shit. I thought the first race was in January.
Another problem I have is that I listen to races on the radio rather than watch them and I haven't found the station that broadcasts Formula E.
Was it a good race?
@davidnjoku @mountdiscovery It was kinda a delightful mess. Every Nissan power train car got an over-power penalty and the race was red-flagged twice. But I think it bodes well for the season because I think that was all indicative of drivers getting used to the Gen 3 Evo.
@roadriverrail I am just glad the front wings are working...
A delightful mess is so on brand with this championship.
@mountdiscovery It's really our most followed series here in my family. Everyone loves the complexity of energy management, the street courses, and the "Mtv in the 80s" feeling that, because nothing is decided in this format of racing, anything could happen at any time.
@roadriverrail I've watched every race since the Gen 2 Era and I agree there's a different vibe watching this form of motorsport.
I remember the Group Quali format which was even a wild card and completely jumbled the grid.
@roadriverrail would love to see Attack Mode strats in the upcoming races
@mountdiscovery IIRC, that's how all the Nissan power trains had over-power spikes. The charge into the first turn was always dramatic but now it's a proper nail-biter.
BTW, y'all are the only two people I've met who follow FE at all.
@roadriverrail yup
Seems like there are only a handful of us in all of the Fediverse talking about motorsport apart from F1 :)
@roadriverrail but I am predominantly a WEC guy these days
Buemi, Frijns, Stoffel, Vernge, Muller, Norman, De Vries and Mortara (Di Grassi and Da Costa up until last year) too were recently part of the Endurance Racing series.
Not to mention Alexa Rendell is the pit lane reporter and media person for that championship as well.
@mountdiscovery yeah, endurance racing is great and no shock you'd want endurance racers in FE. Endurance racing was actually where it all started here at home. We watched Ford v. Ferrari and loved it. It was the pandemic years and we couldn't travel so my partner suggested we watch Le Mans. We slept in front of the projection TV so we didn't miss anything. Later I said "If you really loved this, there's Formula E..." and that was all it took.
@roadriverrail wow, a lovely way to enter the world of motorsport
Ford V Ferrari is one of the best motorsport films out there. I love it!
I started religiously watching WEC after live-watching with my Twitter friends the Centenary Le Mans race and seeing Ferrari's return; winning in the 499-P was such a great experience.
For me, it was Vandoorne and Massa joining FE and since it was the start of a new era, I have been a fan of the series ever since.
@davidnjoku it was a typical FE race full of chaos and excitement with plenty of overtakes and race leaders.
A FE race is around ≈45 mins are great at visuals... not sure it'll be great at audio.
@mountdiscovery Less than an hour? Wow.
Most people think F1 wouldn't work on the radio either, but it totally does. I'm hoping it's the same for FE
@davidnjoku I doubt that...
Just watch some highlights. The racing in this series can be overwhelming.
