Whenever you're starting something new, it can be overwhelming to choose your tools. For a blogger, that might be the platform you use to publish your blog on and what you use to write your posts.
More important than choosing The Best Tool is to get started creating. Just pick a tool and focus in the beginning at the writing itself. You can always migrate to others.
Once you get going, then its time to focus on tools and learn them in-depth.
I love making and trying out different tools. Some usually save me time, reduce the annoyance of a task that has to be done or are just nicer than the alternatives.
Some examples of tools I use regularly and/or have made:
- Markdown & plain text writing app with text formatting features, hotkeys, templates, theming & other customisation. Includes simple things such as pasting as link or code snippet, so writing docs for example is a joy.

- Timer & alarm combo app, where you can set specific time or use time from now
- Per project browser startpage with hotkeys & search so that it never takes long to find some repository, docs, Jira etc.
- Git commit message generator since the required format has lots of brackets & rules
- Bookmarklet which copies the URI & title of the site
- Hammerspoon script to manage windows, open things, add hotkeys or menus to apps.
@hamatti None of them are amazing or special tools, but they help me get me work done and even if the time spent making them vs. time gained doesn't have a positive ratio, they still make things easier to do.
