Monday was the first day of the London Climate Action Week #LCAW2024
Late in the afternoon @lobeliaearth did not miss the opportunity to attend the Ocean-Climate Nexus event organised by Amal K. (Nui)
There was a very interesting lineup of speakers talking about Climate & Ocean, and the opening by Antoinette Vermilye (Gallifrey Foundation) was inspiring:
“There is a strong connection between biodiversity, climate and the ocean” (...) “The Earth's greatest migration and major influencer on ocean and planetary systems is caused by daily plankton migrations from the surface to the deep Sea”
This connection was at the core of one exciting project with National Geographic’s Pristine Seas where we provided scientific data to support the extension of a Marine Protected Area “Frente Valdés” in Argentina. Plankton was used as a marker for a rich marine environment along with ocean properties and climate projections to identify current and future Magellanic penguin habitat.
Conserving marine ecosystems is crucial in the fight against climate change, that’s why we love partnering with conservation organisations.
