JD Vance said during his visit to Greenland on Friday that he doesn’t believe military action will ever be needed on the island amid President Donald Trump’s claims that the U.S. requires control of the semi- autonomous territory. “We do not think that military force is ever going to be necessary,” the vice president said at a U.S. military base. “We think this makes sense, and because we think the people of Greenland are rational and good, we think we’re going to be able to cut a deal, Donald Trump-style, to ensure the security of this territory but also the United States of America.” Meanwhile, Trump has signed an executive order targeting the Smithsonian Institution by threatening to withdraw federal funding from its programs that contain what he calls “divisive narratives” and “improper ideology.” The president said there has been a “concerted and widespread” effort over the past decade to rewrite American history by replacing “objective facts” with a “distorted narrative driven by ideology rather than truth.” His order instructs Vice President JD Vance to “remove improper ideology” from the Smithsonian’s museums, education, and research centers and the National Zoo.

@maddad the whole visit was a disaster and humiliation for them - all that way to spend some time in a remote Space Base miles from any town because no-one in Greenland was prepared to host or speak to them and the locals have been protesting loudly outside the US Consulate all week.
