Why elected

Adults typically give children simple answers to life's challenges, and it is comforting. We all seek that comfort life-long. Some of us grow up and accept that most answers are complex.

So why now are many turning to simple answers?

As stuff gets worse, people increasingly desperately seek comfort.

A line of people queue towards a sign that offers "Answers". Below the sign are two annotated arrows and a bookcase. Most people are following the arrow that says, "Simple, but wrong". Shortly thereafter they fall over a cliff edge. A few take a book from the bookcase and, with their nose in the book, follow the arrow that says "Complex, but right" and begin the long slow winding journey upwards.
