#DwarfFortress is an awesome #colony #simulator that shines so bright in this #genre. On the #SteamDeck, it runs near perfect, but needs a #controller #layout to really enjoy it.
Thank you Bay 12 Games and Kitfox for providing a copy for us to review!
@steamdeckhq I don't think #TarnAdams has time for it, but it would be awesome to have proper native controller support for the #SteamDeck.
@fell it’s possible yeah. Until then, we did make our own controller layout that, once you get used to it, feels quite nice, but native support will always be one step up.
Took 3 hours to make it thanks to those nested virtual menus to be able to select commands and their sub-commands.
@steamdeckhq Can you move the camera by dragging? I was missing that when trying out the top 3 layouts. Always moving 10 squares just isn't fine enough.
@fell could you be more specific? I did make sure the Dpad and left joystick can move the camera, but I’m curious about what you’re specifically looking for.
@steamdeckhq When you move the camera with WASD, it always moves in 10 tile increments. But if you middle click and drag, it moves in 1 tile increments So you have finer control by dragging, and I like that.
Unfortunately, none of the layouts I tried made use of that. It's possible to use one of the touch pads, but I'd have to figure out where to put the other commands that the author of the layout had put there.
@fell I didn’t know that! I will add that in to V2 of the controller layout for options. I will post when it is available (probably tomorrow).
Does middle-click with WASD work too or only mouse dragging?
@steamdeckhq I don't know, but I assume not.
