Earlier today I posted in a thread about the dire need for more affordable & social housing in England today.

When I was a child (1960s etc) there was no stigma attached to council housing - the residents were from pretty much all walks of life in our experience/ memory.

When - in England /the UK - did social housing become looked down on as second class?

I'd love to blame Thatcher ad Right to Buy, but I suspect it was before that disaster.
