Here we go again. For years #Trump has decried #election security, and now he threatens to withhold #ElectionSecurity funds from states…While at the same time removing the rule that explicitly banned using federal grant money for activities that "could be used to suppress #VoterRegistration or turnout."
To be clear: He wants to make it okay to suppress your #RightToVote by taking money away from election security and putting it into #VoterSuppression. https://www.npr.org/2025/08/22/nx-s1-5508345/election-security-grants-trump-voting-policy
“Trump claims Putin warned him mail-in ballots make elections ‘impossible’—and now he plans to scrap them in 2026. Arizona and Oregon say: good luck. States run elections, not the ex-president. #VoteByMail #ElectionSecurity #TrumpFail” www.axios.com/2025/08/18/t...

Trump’s wild claim about showing a license plate to vote is exposed by Conover Kennard, revealing how absurd and false such stories are. Florida law requires photo ID, not license plates, yet the media often overlooks these slip-ups. Kennard’s sharp critique questions Trump’s credibility on election facts. Rachel Maddow spotlights Trump seeking Putin’s advice on U.S. elections and pushing to ban mail-in voting—raising alarms over election integrity. Georgia’s GOP Sec. of State Raffensperger rejects these claims, affirming mail-in ballots’ security and bipartisan use. States, not the president, control voting rules—crucial checks keep trust intact. >>Such integration has never existed before, and experts call it a sea change that inches the U.S. closer to having a roster of citizens — something the country has never embraced. A centralized national database of Americans' personal information has long been considered a third rail — especially to privacy advocates as well as political conservatives, who have traditionally opposed mass data consolidation by the federal government.
Legal experts told NPR they were alarmed that a development of this magnitude was already underway without a transparent and public process.<<

It’s democratic primary #election day in #virginia. Just 2 races on the ballot. Picking the Democratic Party candidate for lieutenant governor and attorney general. It’s sleepy. We do the full thing l: all the same procedures and all the full security, but for a fraction of the voters. Polls opened at 6am. At 7:45 we checked in our 7th voter. We finally have had more voters than election officers. I’ll do a thread here during the day about #elections and #electionsecurity and all the humdrum ordinary things of helping people vote.

Arizona’s Elections Procedures Manual states that supervisors have no discretion when certifying results — or at least, that’s how it’s always been interpreted. @TucsonSentinel reports on a court ruling that threw out that section of the manual, and that may now shake up pending criminal charges for conspiracy against an election supervisor who delayed certification of Cochise County’s 2022 midterm results. “Ambiguity in election certification laws is a problem in several swing states across the country,” writes Jen Fifield.
Former CISA Director Chris Krebs is stepping down from the private sector to fight a federal investigation ordered by President Trump.
Krebs, who led the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) from 2018 to 2020, says the probe — which also stripped him of his security clearance — is part of a broader pattern of using federal power to punish dissent.
“It’s about the government pulling its levers to punish dissent,” Krebs told The Wall Street Journal. “To go after corporate interests and corporate relationships.”
Krebs was fired in 2020 after publicly debunking false claims about election fraud, calling the 2020 vote “the most secure in American history.”
He has since been working in the private sector as chief policy officer at SentinelOne, but is now stepping down to challenge what he calls a politically motivated investigation.
This situation adds to growing concerns from within the cybersecurity community:
- Can security professionals do their jobs without political interference?
- What happens when technical truth is punished rather than protected?
- How do we preserve trust in cyber leadership and national defense?
At @Efani we believe the integrity of cybersecurity must remain independent of politics. The people who defend infrastructure, protect elections, and ensure resilience should never fear retaliation for doing their jobs honestly.
Trust in digital systems starts with trust in those who secure them.

North Carolina voters: Do NOT send your passport by email or any other method right now.
The ballot curing process hasn’t started yet. If you get a message asking for your passport, it could be phishing. Stay alert and protect your information.
We’ll share official instructions as soon as the process begins.
