One last blog post for 2024, Spotify's "fake artists" problem vs. Endel's AI-generated wellness music playlists, a land grab for the functional music sector. Are we looking at this issue correctly? It's a topic I've been following for years, as part of my course offering at Bennington College. Big ups to Music Business Worldwide for the excellent continued coverage. Happy holidays everyone!

@unknow Dla mnie #Endel to syntetyczna muzyka wspomagająca skupienie, a Brain.fm „prawdziwa” muzyka dodatkowo przetworzona dla uzyskania lepszego efektu wspomagania skupienia.

Bardziej odpowiada mi podejście #brainfm

Do innych zastosowań raczej ich nie używam, choć miałem epizod zasypiania przy soundscape z Endel i nawet fajnie to działało.

I just added a 🆕 course to the @learnomnifocus course library: Practical Focus with #OmniFocus 4

Appropriately enough, I field-tested the apps and strategies presented in the course while creating the course itself…and enhanced my focus skills along the way.

Featured apps include #brainfm, #endel, Drafts (@agiletortoise), #fantastical (@flexibits), @focus, Rize, Session and Timing.

Anybody out there have an opinion on the Endel app?

Positives: I like the product itself. It's working as designed. The UI is nice.
Minuses: They collect a fair amount of data (but as a German company subject to GDPR👍). Their manifesto has this gem: "Great technology is indistinguishable from magic." 🙄 And their white team photo reminds me of an 80s New Wave band album cover.
Any and all opinions/thoughts greatly appreciated!

Just a quick note to say that #Endel's Move and Clarity Trip modes are really really fun. They're procedurally generated music modes designed to encourage you. In this case, they also change the speed of the beat and the intensity of the music in line with the speed at which you are (in my case) walking or (presumably) running.

Give it a go for a somewhat different movement experience

🎶🎧 I’m a big fan of #Brain.fm service as a tool to get #focused and improve your #Mindfulness

But today I started testing alternative - #Endel app. Seems to be more technically sophisticated. And Endel’s sounds seems to be more artificial than Brain.fm’s music.

@maryhamermusic yeah, I use so many self-care apps! #insighttimer for meditation, #noom for weight loss, #reframe for drinking, #Endel for concentrating. #zero is fine; apart from the timer, it has articles about the science of fasting and related topics; it has challenges, and it can integrate with your other health trackers (through the Health app on an iPhone for example) so you can check the interactions among exercise, sleeping, and fasting, etc.

Slate: How the Streaming Era Turned Music Into Sludge

It's a point of view that a lot of people can agree with.

One thing: Endel is mentioned in the piece. The author uses it and I actually also use it. I've been using it to help me sleep and block out the city noise for about a year and a half. Honestly, it's been fantastic. I actually love it. I've tried their "focus" stuff, but that just doesn't do it for me. In fact, I don't usually ever have background music. Last night, I was listening to music and it's all that I was doing. I was focused on it. I wasn't reading, or writing, or checking Mastodon - nothing like that. I was simply listening to music. It was an experience. The whole "background music" while I work thing isn't for me. I can't concentrate and it just sounds confusing.
