GORSE AND FIRES
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —I wish to draw attention through your columns to two matters which cause considerable uneasiness among residents in suburbs adjoining the Town Belt. One is the indiscriminate lighting of gorse fires by irresponsible boys in the vicinity of dwellings. The other is the neglect of the City Council to keep cleared of gorse portions of the Town Belt adjacent to buildings. The extreme dryness of this season makes it imperative: (1) That something should be done to prohibit the lighting of gorse fires without a permit; (2) that the gorse and other inflammable matter should be cleared from City Council reserves, adjoining private property and buildings.—I am, etc.,
