Lunch at the Carolina Coffee Shop is the best way to celebrate a paper submission! 📄 Congratulations to Garrett Sessions, whose research sheds light on how healthy cells become senescent under common stresses such as DNA damage, and the role timing plays in driving distinct phenotypes and inflammatory subpopulations. Wondering how often peer review in academia involves people who know nothing about your topic? My instructor is insisting that this peer review will help us if we go into academia, but it seems to be unhelpful to have people not familiar with my area of work reading my article.

How does queer theory impact liberation theology? Really? You have to ask that question? *eyeroll*

Just met with graduate advisor to talk about comp exams, which I will probably take early to mid next semester. I can do this. Seems very doable for my department and how they handle it and I am feeling much better now given how badly my anxiety, cPTSD, AuDHD is being at the moment due to the job situation....

Bottom line, I really need to be able to walk way from this job by the end of the year. Check out my profile for my self-employment endeavors. Please.

The biggest difference in the undergrad and grad school experience in the first six weeks is that I don’t have time to check or even think about grades on assignments. Just keep working. Right now, I am handling four live projects other than my classes. So, where is the time to check grades?

As body theologians, we seek to affirm bodily experience as inherent to our existence in the world, and theologize to overcome hierarchies and taxonomies that emerge out of body/mind dualisms. (pg 88 Meaning in Our Bodies by Peckruhn)

Holy shit! This book is life changing to my understanding of where I am in relation to disability liberation (incl mad & ND liberation) and theology from a pan/polytheist standpoint. I now have a word for my studies. Body Theology.

I’m seeking recommendations for PhD programs. My masters level graduate work is focused on #posthumanism, and I have extensive experience in #CommunityDevelopment. For my doctoral research I’d like to merge the two fields to re-imagine how we do and be #community in the #Anthropocene. I’m looking for a program that is pretty self-directed and ideally offers opportunities for independent studies. I’m just starting this search process from scratch.

All suggestions welcome!

People keep asking me what Posthumanism is… in a few simple words (from my perspective as a #gradstudent , not an expert)… it is a decentering of the “human” in our thoughts and actions. (When I refer to “human,” I mean it in ALL senses that the “human” represents.) Another way of putting it might be: #DEI for all beings on a universal scale.

Again, not an expert… just sharing my take.

If you want to hear it from the experts, check out this talk on a new book by #francescaferrando that I’m SUPER excited about! (See link below) Titled: The Art of Being Posthuman.

The Art of Being Posthuman" CETAPS+ Cultures of the Future Talks Feb 14, 2024 5 PM UTC (Lisbon) Online What is Love? As a celebration of Valentine's Day in post-anthropocentric ways, this book presentation of The Art of Being Posthuman: Who are We in the 21st Century? (Polity), will focus on the notion of posthuman love approached as love for existence. This posthuman journey of self-inquiry will engage with a wide range of knowledge and wisdom: from the Paleolithic times to the futures of radical life extension, from multi-species evolutions to the rights of Nature, the Anthropocene and the rise of Artificial Intelligence. Knowing who we are means loving the Self as the others within. We are one and many: Infinite, Love. Dr. Ferrando, Ph.D. (pronouns: they/them) teaches Philosophy at New York University (US), NYU-Program of Liberal Studies. Dr. Ferrando is a leading voice in the field of Posthuman Studies and the author of several publications, including Philosophical Posthumanism (Bloomsbury) and The Art of Being Posthuman (Polity); their work has been translated into a dozen languages. Hi all, I just joined Mastodon and wanted to share an #introduction. I’m Catie, a #gradstudent studying the #posthumanities in the US. I joined Mastodon bc a friend shared that I’d likely find some like-minded folx here online, since my small suburban town is pretty limited when it comes to anything “post.” Looking for fun or intriguing conversations and connects! I somewhat recently moved off the #permaculture homestead I was developing, so I’ve got that background too. I’ve been examining intersections of #posthumanism and permaculture related to patterning… lots there! Reach out if you’re looking to connect!

Discussion sections are an important opportunity for students to build on their understanding of course lecture content, ask questions, and make connections that there might not be time to address directly in class.

They're also an opportunity for students to connect with one another that can be difficult to accomplish in a large lecture.

Check out our tips on leading a great discussion section. ideasonfire.net/teaching-assis #GradStudent #PhDLife
